The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor has been named Popular Mechanic’s Pickup Truck of the Year in the magazine’s annual Popular Mechanics Automotive Excellence Awards, saying the Raptor “transcends the competition” in the pickup segment.
The Raptor has been improved for the 2017 model year over the previous year with better performance and new technology, with a segment-first 10-speed automatic transmission and class-leading 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Popular Mechanics automotive editor Ezra Dyer said the Raptor is “to a standard F-150 what the Bruce Banner is to the Incredible Hulk” and highlighted the truck’s superiority over other trucks on off-road terrain.
The Raptor also comes with a six-mode Terrain Management System, which lets the driver specify the kind of terrain they’re on, so the Raptor can adjust to perfectly handle that terrain. It’s 500 lbs lighter than previous model years as well, with a new aluminum-alloy body that improves performance and fuel economy.
The F-150 has also been named FOUR WHEELER’s Pickup Truck of the Year and the AutoTrader Must Test Drive award, The Fast Lane Truck Gold Hitch award, and the Cars.com Best Pickup of 2017 award. This is the F-150’s 40th straight year as America’s best-selling pickup truck.

Ford is branching out in transportation options with the new Ford GoBike!
Ford Smart Mobility LLC recently acquired Chariot, a crowd-sourced shuttle service based in San Francisco that Ford plans to use to help grow its shuttle services around the world. Ford hopes to extend its shuttle services to five more markets within a year and a half.
Also in the Bay Area and around San Francisco, Ford is rolling out the new Ford GoBike, a bike sharing service where bikes are provided and riders borrow them for a few hours and then drop them off at another GoBike stop.
Ford hopes to get this project underway by next year and wants to increase the number of cyclists using GoBikes to 7,000 in that area by the end of 2018. GoBikes will be able to be accessed using FordPass. Eventually, Ford wants to develop an interconnected mobility network connected through data collection from the GoBikes to include real-time data on weather and traffic, among others.
Ford is putting together a team called City Solutions that will help continue its efforts to expand mobility services around the world. These are just some of the initiatives to increase new Ford transportation in global cities. Ford will continue to expand in its role as a leader in the global mobility market.

Knowing what to do when your car won’t start can save you a lot of time and money!
If your car won’t start, there are a few things you can do to test what the problem is and see if it’s something you can fix. If it is, you’ll save money on a tow truck.
If you can’t turn the key and the engine seems to be stuck, you may just have a problem with your wheels being turned too far from when you parked. Turn the wheel back to a straighter position and try again. If it still doesn’t work, try a spare key if you have one.
If you turn the key but nothing happens at all, this is usually a sign of a bad battery. Your battery life may be running out or your connection may be weak. Try to turn on the lights. If they seem dim, this is a sign of a dead battery. Call your roadside assistance or a good friend with jumper cables and ask them to come out and help you jump your battery. Then take it right to a parts store to get tested.
If the car cranks but doesn’t turn over when you try to start it, this is a harder problem to figure out on your own and it’s time to call for a tow or roadside assistance. Often the problem is a frozen fuel line, and it’s something you need to take in and have looked at.
The Ford Focus RS is about to get a huge power upgrade!

In fact, the kit improves the horsepower output of the Focus RS by 25 horsepower, bringing the total from 350 to 375 horsepower. This much of a jump is a huge difference, especially for a vehicle already known for its performance abilities.

“The Runner” has an extra special star and it’s the new Ford Escape!
Ford loves its collaborations, and that’s what it did for the new Ford Escape. A new collaboration with Verizon’s Go90 mobile app puts the 2017 Ford Escape in the starring role of “The Runner,” a new kind of reality show.
“The Runner” will run on the Go90 app, AOL.com, and Xbox. This reality show pits five teams of contestants against a character called “The Runner.” All teams will chase The Runner, who’s trying to make it across the United States.
It’s innovative because of the way the public can interact with this show. Viewers can choose their favorite chase team and help them out by giving them clues to The Runner’s location.
And of course, the chasing teams all get help from the Ford Escape. Contestants will use SYNC 3 technology, voice-activated features, and a foot-activated liftgate, as well as text message capability in the new Escape to make their journey.
“The Runner” will have three new episodes a day throughout the month, meaning that viewers can keep track of each contestant’s progress. You can pick your favorite players and help them along their way. Plus, you’ll be able to preview the best features of the all-new Ford Escape!
The Ford designers have come up with another innovative way to give you more storage space!
When you are traveling on the road, you definitely want all of your equipment by your side. The best place for that equipment is around your vehicle’s center console. However, this area is usually limited on space. Always looking to improve the vehicle experience, Ford has found a way to address that issue.
According to a Ford press release, the interior center console of the 2017 Ford Escape will have more room for supplies.
In order to create more room throughout the center console, Ford’s designers created a smaller electronic parking brake.
Once the size of the parking brake was reduced, Ford could increase the remaining cargo room along the center console. The result is a 25% increase in front room storage for Escape passengers.
“That whole center console area is what we call ‘Manhattan real estate’ because it’s valuable,” said Zulf Ali, Ford senior interior designer. “It isn’t a lot of space to work with, but as a designer, those constraints are exciting. It’s a challenge that forces you to be more creative – to ask yourself, ‘OK, how can we get clever with this?’”
For a vehicle that has room for everything that you could ever want or need on the road, the 2017 Ford Escape has you covered!
Tornados are extremely unpredictable so knowing what to do ahead of time is important.
Summertime weather is usually famous for sunny days and hot temperatures. However, the summer weather is also famous for being unpredictable. Warm and cold fronts often clash during the summer months. The consequences of this violent change in weather can often come in the form of a tornado! Tornados can cause a ton of damage, so it is important to know how to prepare for a tornado. Fortunately, there are several ways you can ensure you and your family are safe before a tornado touches down!
- There is often a period of warning before severe summer storms strike! Take this time to ensure that any dead or damaged branches from the trees surrounding your property are removed to minimize damages.
- Other outside objects that can damage your property during a storm include yard furniture. Move this furniture from the patio to the inside of your home!
- You should have a certain room in your home selected as a designated safe room in case of a tornado. This room should be below the ground if at all possible and should preferably lack windows.
Tornados can happen at any time. That is why it is so important that you be prepared for them at all times! Make sure that you and your family take the necessary precautions to stay safe this summer.

Ford has a long-ranged EV in the works. Hopefully to be released in the next few years!
Ford announced late last month that it has plans to soon release a long-range electric vehicle that will compete with the Tesla Model S as well as new electric vehicles coming from GM and Nissan.
No development schedule was mentioned for the long-range electric Ford, but the company will probably aim for a release date near the release of the new long-range Chevy Bolt, which Chevy claims will have a range of at least 200 miles, and the similarly ranged next-generation Nissan Leaf. Chevy is aiming for a fall 2016 release of the new Bolt.
Ford CEO Mark Fields said on the matter, “We want to make sure we’re either among the leaders or in a leadership position” in the electric vehicle market and that they are “clearly developing for” the same things their competitors are. With the recent announcement of a more affordable Tesla, the Model 3 priced at the average electric vehicle price of $35,000, the non-luxury EV market will be even more competitive.
Fields also mentioned Ford’s stated plan to invest $4.5 billion over the next several years in developing 13 new hybrid and electric vehicles.
