Ford has a long-ranged EV in the works. Hopefully to be released in the next few years!
Ford announced late last month that it has plans to soon release a long-range electric vehicle that will compete with the Tesla Model S as well as new electric vehicles coming from GM and Nissan.
No development schedule was mentioned for the long-range electric Ford, but the company will probably aim for a release date near the release of the new long-range Chevy Bolt, which Chevy claims will have a range of at least 200 miles, and the similarly ranged next-generation Nissan Leaf. Chevy is aiming for a fall 2016 release of the new Bolt.
Ford CEO Mark Fields said on the matter, “We want to make sure we’re either among the leaders or in a leadership position” in the electric vehicle market and that they are “clearly developing for” the same things their competitors are. With the recent announcement of a more affordable Tesla, the Model 3 priced at the average electric vehicle price of $35,000, the non-luxury EV market will be even more competitive.
Fields also mentioned Ford’s stated plan to invest $4.5 billion over the next several years in developing 13 new hybrid and electric vehicles.

Right now, police vehicles are pretty easy to spot, with distinct light bars on the top of their vehicles. But Ford is making it a little harder to pick out law enforcement from the rest of the crowd, with a subtle interior visor light.
Ford announced that it will offer new, factory-installed front interior visor light bars in their best-selling police vehicles. The interior lights will provide stealth and make them harder to recognize in your rearview mirror.
“Today, agencies typically use aftermarket interior visor light bars that are somewhat bulky and can obstruct the field of vision – especially for taller officers,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police marketing manager for North American fleet, lease and remarketing operations.
The more low-profile unit is seated at the top of the windshield, so it majorly improves the driver’s visibility compared to aftermarket options.
The dark band at the top of the windshield is also replaced by clear glass when the light is ordered, allowing for full brightness. There are also dimming and auto-dimming options to take the brightness down to 20 percent.
So make sure you’re on your best driving behavior, because you won’t know when a Ford police vehicle is approaching!

Ford fans could experience a sooner-than-expected release date for the new Mustang (2016 model pictured here at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show).
Mustang fans rejoice! You may not have to wait as long before the next Mustang makeover.
LMC Automotive prepared an industry forecast for the Ford Company, and the report suggests that release date of the next-generation of Mustang may have moved. Originally the date of production for the next model was going to be in January 2022. Now it appears as though the new production date will be May 2020.
The codename for the new car may be the “S-650”. The current Mustang is known as the S-550, and the one before that was the SN-197.
Sports cars tend to have longer life cycles than mainstream vehicles, so the movement of the date is significant. There was nine years between the SN-197 and the S-550, but if the new date is accurate, there will be only six years between the S-550 and the S-650.
Ford has not commented on projected vehicle development, so the reason for the potentially earlier production date is unknown. Maybe the popularity of the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro has increased the push for a newer Mustang. However, even though the Camaro has been doing well, the Mustang is still ahead in sales.
Although there has not been an official release date for the new Mustang, we at Jimmy Michel Motors are excited to see the next-gen Mustang. For now, we will wait patiently and enjoy the current Mustang (click for our new and used Mustang inventory).
The Ford Freedom Unsung program, an annual program honoring outstanding achievements by black people in a different community across the country each year, is launching nationwide this year with the help of the Tom Joyner Foundation.
The Tom Joyner Foundation, founded in 1998, is dedicated to raising scholarship funds for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Ford officials have expressed excitement at working with the Foundation because of their mutual history of supporting the black community financially and otherwise.
Individuals are asked to nominate a member of the black community whom they consider an “unsung hero.” From these nominations, judges will pick 10 finalists for the public to vote on online. Nominations are due no later than February 14, so if you have someone to enter, do it soon!
The grand prize winner will be chosen March 15 and will receive a trip for two on the 2016 Fantastic Voyage, a cruise organized by the Tom Joyner Foundation for Black men and women with proceeds going to HBCUs.
We’re proud to be a Ford dealership and support the company in this venture!
The Ford GT Supercar is getting even lighter due to a partnership with Corning Gorilla Glass on a thinner windshield.
Improving both power-to-weight ratio and weight distribution is a major concern with any performance vehicle. We’ve already seen lots of great innovations that help the new Ford GT stay light on its feet. The use of carbon fiber and aluminum as well as engine placement has already helped the balance and weight of the GT.
The latest innovation to be added to the list has to do with the windshield, of all things. Ford has just announced that the GT will feature a Corning Gorilla Glass hybrid windshield, an industry-first.
A press release from Ford explains how Henry Ford introduced the traditional automotive laminated windshield nearly a century ago. The fact that it is still in use is testament to its genius. This windshield is composed of “two layers of annealed glass sandwiched around a clear, thermoplastic interlayer binding agent.”
The Corning Gorilla Glass hybrid is very different. A hybrid sheet forms the inner layer. The center layer is thermoplastic and designed to absorb noise and annealed glass forms the outer layer. The new windshield is 12 pounds lighter that the traditional windshield.

To produce the 2017 Ford Super Duty vehicles, Ford is creating 2,000 new jobs at its Kentucky truck plant.
Ford is investing $1.3 billion into its Kentucky Truck Plant to support the manufacture of the new, aluminum-bodied 2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup.
The expansion will include a new body shop, retool machinery to make the truck, and various other upgrades to the facilities—in total, this will bring 2,000 new jobs to the plant.
The plant already builds the company’s F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty models as well as the Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. Demand has been so high that the factory was only able to take a one-week break this summer, even after an initial $80 million investment in 2014.
The 2017 Ford Super Duty follows in the footsteps of the 2016 F-150 by moving to an aluminum body, allowing it to save 350 lbs. of weight. Ford used this to fortify the frame with 95% high-strength steel and to make it 24 times stiffer.
With these changes, we expect the new Super Duty truck to be even more popular than the outgoing model at Jimmy Michel Motors.
Road & Track recently put eight of the greatest new sports cars from all over the world to the test to determine which one was the best. The result? The Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang was named the Performance Car of the Year.
The Shelby GT350R, the Performance Car of the Year according to Road & Track!
The eight powerhouse cars were a lineup car enthusiasts could only dream about. It included the 2015 Bentley Continental GT3-R, 2016 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe, 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, 2016 Dodge Viper ACR, 2016 Ferrari 488 GTB, 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S, and 2016 Porsche Cayman GT4.
To be considered for this award, cars had to be street-legal while at the same time pushing their performance to the max with competitive lap times.
Road & Track writes, “GT350R is the Mustang that all Mustangs have been waiting to become.”
It is also worth noting that the Mustang is also the least expensive car on this list. It walked away with the award after a runaway vote.
The Shelby GT350R is powered by a high-revving, flat-plane crankshaft 5.2-liter V8 engine. This powerhouse is rated at 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque and is the most track-capable Mustang ever produced.

Ford is reinventing the Super Duty. Adding some unique capabilities, the Ford Super Duty lineup is increasing capabilities, safety, and even some entertainment options. No matter what you’re looking for, you can find it in a Super Duty pickup.
Some improvements to the 2017 lineup include options like using more military-grade aluminum alloys, cutting weight by more than 350 lbs, according to Ford. The Super Duty is also getting new chassis cab features like a high-strength frame with an open C-channel design to enable easy aftermarket up-fit modifications.
“While Super Duty is America’s best-selling heavy-duty truck, we never take our leadership for granted,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development and chief technical officer. “Our team is using relentless innovation in materials, technology and Built Ford Tough engineering to deliver customers our best Super Duty yet.”
There are 16 segment-first options on the new lineup models, including advanced camera technologies, fifth-wheel capabilities, LED lighting, adaptive cruise control, and more. In-cab trailer tire pressure is also a first for these trucks, just one of many new options that make the Ford Super Duty pickups among the best in their class.

Foreigner is teaming up with Ford in the Rock 4 UR School promotion.
Time to dig your leather jacket and stonewashed jeans out of the closet! The band who brought you hits like “Cold As Ice,” “Hot-Blooded,” “Waiting For A Girl Like You,” “Juke Box Hero” and “I Want To Know What Love Is” is hitting the road again.
But giving audiences a blast from the past isn’t the only purpose for Foreigner’s Fall tour. The rock band has teamed up with Ford to help the automaker’s Rock 4 UR School initiative.
As a press release from Ford explains, high school choirs in select cities will be able to submit videos of themselves performing “I Want To Know What Love Is.” The winning choir will have the opportunity to join Foreigner to perform what was their biggest hit. The choir will also have the opportunity to host a fundraising event, with the chance to earn up to $6,000 for their choir program.
Tracy Magee, Ford experiential marketing manager, said, “We are delighted to partner with such an iconic and influential band like Foreigner to provide support and visibility for high school choir programs.”
We’re hoping that choirs around the Springfield area put their pipes to good use and raise money for a school near Aurora!
Finally, the much-anticipated Ford Focus RS is heading stateside for the first time ever early next year. The high-performance Focus has had car enthusiasts drooling for years – and now is the center of controversy right here in the USA.
Apparently, in advance of the official arrival of the U.S.-spec Focus RS (which will obviously be street-legal), a (maybe?) not-so-street-legal Focus RS was put up for sale to the highest bidder on eBay. The seller claims that the 2010 Focus RS is the only RS currently for sale in the U.S., but omits any details on how the RS got here in the first place, or whether it can be driven on our roads.
The 2010 RS is listed as having 14,740 miles on the odometer, and boasts Recaro Leather bucket seats, blue-painted calipers, a large rear spoiler, and black alloy wheels shod with BF Goodrich G-Force tires. Additionally, the little powerhouse is powered by a .5-liter inline five-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that puts out 301 horsepower.
The starting bid was $35,000, which seems like a good deal (if it’s legal, that is). Unfortunately for the seller, the bidding ended on August 11th, with not a single bid.
Here at Jimmy Michel Motors, we recommend waiting just a few months, and you’ll be able to get your hands on a brand new model that’s sure to be street legal! In the meantime, check out our Focuses currently in stock and all of our new inventory.
